Running Project: 1972 Suzuki Jimny LJ10

$
0
0

This 1972 Suzuki LJ-10 (chassis 023622) is a running project that has been non-op registered for the past four years–driving condition isn’t mentioned. The body shows noticeable dents and some rust while seats and roll bars are said to be older custom installations. Doors and roof aren’t pictured, and the seller makes no mention of their whereabouts. Already a bit beat up, this one would make a better off-roader than the arguably over-restored restored LJ20 we recently featured. Find it here on Craigslist in Riverside, California for $2,900.

Styling Smorgasbord: Backdated 1988 Jeep Wagoneer

This 1988 Jeep Wagoneer wears a backdated grille, headlights, trim and is also equipped with an older AMC 390 V8 and auto trans. New shocks, stabilizers, and meaty 35″ tires have been fitted and rubber coating has been substituted for carpet. A good looking truck, it’s nonetheless not without issues as the tailgate shows some peeling paint, the passenger armrest is missing a screw and rust shows below the front most passenger side trim piece. Find it here on Craigslist in Eastpointe, Michigan for $5,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Paul G. for this submission!

Safari Top Driver: 1972 Land Rover SIII

$

This 1972 Land Rover SIII 88 looks a bit scruffy but not abused, the seller noting that it runs and drives, but no word on how well it does either. Further said to have a solid frame, it’s a factory diesel model with overdrive, making slow freeway use possible if still not very pleasant. The flow-through ventilation Safari Top and roof rack are nice to have, and if truly rust-free we’d leave it as-is. Find it here on Craigslist in western New York for $16k. Special thanks to BaT reader Christopher C. for this submission!

Drivable Project: 1974 Ford Bronco

This 1974 Ford Bronco (chassis U15TLT40187) was recently rescued from what sounds like long term outdoor storage. Running and driving, the truck nonetheless needs rust repair as well as general mechanical sorting—the seller notes worn bushings, seals and a generally loose feel behind the wheel. A six cylinder, three-on-the-tree model, it looks great with the baby Airstream that it towed away from the same lot and is offered separately. Find the truck here on eBay in north suburban Chicago, Illinois for with no reserve.

1988 Toyota 4X4 Turbodiesel Space Cruiser Van

This 1988 Toyota Space Cruiser is a RHD, UK-sourced import—it’d be badged as a LiteAce if it had come from Japan. A mechanically-injtected diesel van with 4WD and an extra-low first gear, it’s said to be fully functional with a new timing belt and 75k miles. Under-chassis shots look good, and the seller adds that it serves as a reliable daily driver—thankfully it has A/C. Find it here on Craigslist in Bellingham, Washington for $13,900. Special thanks to BaT reader Chris P. for this submission!

Coupe Utility: 1952 Vauxhall Velox Ute

This 1952 Vauxhaull Velox “coupe utlility” (or ute as they call car-based pick-ups in their native Australia and New Zealand) is an interesting little truck in what looks and sounds to be in driver-level condition. The ad notes some rust, but also claims that it starts and runs well and benefits from a rebuilt motor, overhauled brakes and more. We’re not sure we’ve ever seen one in the US, and think it would make a really interesting import and restoration project. Find it here on eBay in Lindfield, NSW, Australia with reserve not met and one, $1 USD bid.

Coupe Utility: 1952 Vauxhall Velox Ute

The truck looks largely complete apart from split rear bumperettes, and despite rust in door bottoms and sills, bodywork looks pretty good for an old work vehicle. Note the funky scalloped rear fenders and integrated bullet-shape taillights. Original or not, we’d consider a more interesting color for respray once needed metal work was completed—both dark blue or minty green examples seen in a Google image search looked pretty cool.

Coupe Utility: 1952 Vauxhall Velox Ute

The interior looks very simple—note the pull-tab sliding windows and minimal instrumentation. The steering wheel appears to be original, and shifting is via a column-mounted stalk. The floor looks crusty but doesn’t appear to have any holes, and we interpret “upholstered seat” to mean re-upholstered. At first glance it looks like a modern transplant, but patterns match the door cards, suggesting it may be correct to original specs.

Coupe Utility: 1952 Vauxhall Velox Ute

Power comes from a small straight six—most sources quote 2.3 liters though here the seller says it’s a 2.6L. Output should be on the order of 65 HP or so, sent rearwards through a 3-speed manual. Claimed to run a rebuilt motor, new clutch and freshened brakes, the listing adds that it runs well but has lapsed registration.

Coupe Utility: 1952 Vauxhall Velox Ute

Fix the rust, bang out the big dents, polish the brightwork, give it a decent quality respray and put it to work.

This 1972 Land Rover ½ Ton Lightweight is a factory-built special designed to be air-lifted by British Army helicopters. A four inch-narrower width allowed the truck to be loaded onto a standard pallet, and removable body panels kept weight low enough for vertical takeoff—in place, these trucks actually weighed more than the standard 88” wheelbase model they were based on. This one’s been restored and is said to be ready for summer. Find it here on Craigslist in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for $8k.

This 1977 International Harvester Scout II is an extended wheel base Traveler model that’s said to run and drive excellently, the seller adding that a small amount of rust near the rear wheel arches has been cut out and replaced with fresh steel. A 345ci V8/automatic truck, factory A/C is said to blow cold, tires are new, and the extra 18” of wheelbase make it a lot more practical if not as attractive as a standard Scout. Find it here on Craigslist in Back River Falls, Wisconsin for $9k. Special thanks to BaT reader Pat S. for this submission!

This 1939 Stutz Pak-age-car is quoted as of ten made, though this history page makes it clear that number is closer to how many are estimated to remain instead. Powered by a rear-mounted engine/transaxle unit that’s said to have been easily removable on a slide-out frame, this one’s going to need plenty of work but would seem to be a worthy project. Find it here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon for $5,500.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

$

0

This 1972 Chevrolet K10 4WD longbed (chassis CKF142Z163370) has been restored with new paint, interior, suspension and a rebuilt 454 in place of its original 350. Impressively specced with a 4-speed manual, front and rear limited slip differentials, and a nice, modest four inch lift over good looking Mickey Thompson aluminum wheels, it’s described as rust-free with very good driver cosmetics and is easily one of the most tasteful GM pick-up builds we’ve seen in years. Find it here on eBay in Pueblo, Colorado with no reserve.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

Said to have been a lifelong California truck before relocating to Colorado in 2009, restoration included new paint around the same time. Photos show it to be holding up very nicely, though the seller does mention a handful of scratches picked up on the road since. All trim and moldings were replaced during restoration, as were bumpers and the grille. Rolling stock is spot-on perfect—these trucks always look good with chunky BFGoodrich raised letter tires over holed aluminum wheels. Note the twin exhaust exits and their angled exit just aft of the rear wheels—another ideally implemented detail.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

Factory Cheyenne Super trim means the truck would have originally been fitted with a cloth bench, but blue vinyl arguably works even better in this application. Upholstery, carpets, door cards, dash pad, headliner and more were all replaced at the time of restoration, and though not installed, the original, working AM radio is included but not currently fitted—the dash opening remains unaltered. All lights are said to be functional, and the spray-on bed liner isn’t normally as shiny as seen in photos for which a water-based dressing was applied.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

The engine bay has been just as nicely prepped as the rest of the truck, and is home to a rebuilt 454—a nice upgrade over the stock 350. Original A/C has been omitted due to bracket incompatibility, though the seller mentions available aftermarket systems for retrofitting—something we’d look into, especially if operable with factory dash controls.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

This is one of a few chassis shots that seem to support rust-free claims.

Big Block 4X4: Restored 1972 Chevrolet K10 4-Speed

Power steering, brakes (discs in front), a big block, 4-speed and 4WD are a great combo in any form, but this one’s outstanding looks and condition make it our new benchmark.

La Jolla Survivor: One Owner 1988 Chevy Suburban

This 1988 Chevrolet Suburban was purchased new by the seller in December of 1987 and is said to be in excellent condition inside and out, a claim that seems to be backed-up well with photos. A half-ton, 2WD, 350-powered truck, it’s said to have always been garaged, and though mileage isn’t mentioned we can’t imagine it being very high. Find it here on Craigslist in La Jolla, California for $5k. Special thanks to BaT reader Matt S. for this submission!

Find it here on Craigslist in Salem, Oregon for $6,500. Special thanks to BaT reader David K. for this submission!

$3750 1954 GMC 350 Texaco Tanker

$

0

This 1954 GMC Tanker is a project that the seller describes as mostly complete apart from some trim pieces and a brake master cylinder, and running condition isn’t mentioned but we suspect maintenance on the GMC’s six isn’t too much of a chore. Cosmetics aren’t great but the exterior doesn’t appear to have any through rust and although faded the Texaco paint is still quite cool. Find it here on Hemmings in Murfreesburo, Tennessee for $3,750.

This 1964 Steyr-Puch Haflinger (chassis 5356032) is claimed to have been completely disassembled, sandblasted and repainted before being put back together five years ago. Though said to run like new with a very tidy engine compartment, the seller says it’s not perfect—no further details are given, however. These little trucks are just as accomplished off-road as their big brother Pinzgauers, and this one looks nicer than most. Find it here on eBay in Palm Desert, California with a $16k BIN.

Panoramic Webasto: 1958 Mercedes Benz 0319B Van Project

$

0

This 1958 Mercedes Benz 0319B (chassis 31907310001464) is a super-cool Panorama bus with factory-fitted skylights and a large Webasto sunroof. Originally used as an MB North America mobile training vehicle, the seller says it’s rust-free and straight. A big but worthy restoration project, it’s been partially fitted with what looks like a small block Ford V8 and is missing its original drivetrain—perfect for a modern turbodiesel swap. Find it here on eBay in Portland, Oregon for $14k OBO.

1958-Mercedes-Benz-0319B-Rear

A factory dually rear axle van, all glass is intact and in good condition excluding the rear window. Fortunately this is a flat piece, so as the seller points out will be relatively inexpensive to replicate. All weatherstripping is available new from Germany as well. Though not shown here, the sunroof mechanism includes side rails but is missing the sliding bow frame. Originally blue and white by the looks of faded paint, we’d definitely try to re-create the faded factory training markings as closely as possible as part of restoration, a job which may be made difficult due to quite a bit of missing trim.

1958-Mercedes-Benz-0319B-Front

The cabin is rough but not completely shot, either. Instruments and switchgear appear largely complete, and though original front seat frames and door/side panels remain intact, both will need re-covering. Rear seats are incorrect, and the seller points out that much of the rear cabin floor is comprised of factory-original heavy duty plywood, some of which needs attention.

Panoramic Webasto: 1958 Mercedes Benz 0319B Van Project

Overhead, the skylights retain their OEM curtain guides, while the rear overhead console still includes factory-fitted heat vents and single large speaker. Check out the standard-fit glass hammer mounts and “in case of emergency smash windows” metal tags located on the rear-most side pillars.

Panoramic Webasto: 1958 Mercedes Benz 0319B Van Project

As mentioned above, the van’s original diesel and transmission are long gone, a former owner having partially installed a Ford small block in their place. Though we’re not against the idea of Detroit V8 power if done well, we think a modern MB-made turbodiesel powertrain would be best—maybe from a wrecked Sprinter?

Panoramic Webasto: 1958 Mercedes Benz 0319B Van Project

Many hours and dollars will be needed, but once restored this thing should be really impressive, and much like the other MB van we featured yesterday, an even cooler alternative to the comparable VW model.

This 1972 Suzuki LJ20 is described as an unrestored example with minimal rust. The seller sounds to be offering the car on part of a third party, and adds that it hasn’t been started since summer of last year. These little two stroke-powered trucks are amazing fun on or off-road, though better keep it on surface streets and out of busy traffic if you plan to drive it on tarmac. Find it here on Craigslist in Kernersville, North Carolina for $5k.

Strange Swap: 1947 Studebaker Pick-Up w/ 2004 Police Interceptor Chassis

$
0
0

This 1947 Studebaker M5 pick-up is actually just a rusty shell sitting on top of much more solid looking 2004 Crown Vic Police Interceptor chassis. We love creative, off-the-wall builds like this, but admit we never saw this one coming—even the auction title makes no reference to the madness underneath what looks like just another old farm truck. Said to be very fast with excellent handling and braking, the car is offered with little other info but pictures do tell much of the story with this one. Find it here on eBay in Pilot Hill, California with no reserve.

Strange Swap: 1947 Studebaker M5 Pick-Up with Crown Vic Police Interceptor Guts

Excluding the fat, foursquare stance and high offset cop car wheels, the truck looks pretty much standard issue Studebaker. Dimpled, rusty, patched sheet metal and heavily worn brightwork give it the appearance of a hard-used work truck, which in all likelihood is exactly what it was prior to this swap. We’ll reserve comment on the bumper stickers, but dig the side bed mounted UNDER 6000 GROSS tags.

Strange Swap: 1947 Studebaker M5 Pick-Up with Crown Vic Police Interceptor Guts

The weirdness continues inside with oddly chosen, headrest-less, light colored power leather seats from a late model BMW. Channellock door handles, Pep Boys “custom” window winders, a random 2×4, and lots of wiring are other character-defining features. The cop car spotlights poke through A-pillars, and what old truck would be complete without a wheel spinner knob?

Strange Swap: 1947 Studebaker M5 Pick-Up with Crown Vic Police Interceptor Guts

Police Interceptor guts mean stiffer than standard Crown Vic suspension, four wheel discs and a 4.6L, 24 valve, SOHC modular V8. 250 HP isn’t a huge amount, until you consider the truck’s original 90 horse 226 cubic inch straight six. Swap work looks as amateurish as you’d guess, and both wiring and mounting points should be among the first items on an post-purchase fix-it list.

Strange Swap: 1947 Studebaker M5 Pick-Up with Crown Vic Police Interceptor Guts

After that you could thrown in some cams, a bigger throttle body, an ECU tune and maybe a few other tricks to liberate more power. A supercharger could work, too. Regardless of the details, we’re just happy it exists. Bravo, builder.

Check out the custom built slide-out stove and food prep counter. Find it here on Craigslist in Kamloops, BC, Canada for $12,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Kirin J. for this submission!
