1991 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

$

0

This 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a Japanese market model featuring a two liter turbodiesel that was serviced in the last 25k miles, with total miles at approximately 80k. Photos show a clean truck inside and out, one that we don’t doubt is a capable off-roader despite what looks like a history of careful use. This one won’t be US-legal for at least another 10 months depending on date of manufacture, but short-term storage north of the border could be arranged in the meantime. Find it here on Craigslist in Vancouver, BC, Canada for $9,600.

Lifted V8 4X4: 1952 International Harvester L-Series Pick-Up

$

This 1952 International Harvester L-series truck runs a new crate 350 and automatic trans, and though execution is a bit of a mixed bag, we like the lift, big tires and widened steelies with caps. School bus yellow wouldn’t be our first choice of paint color, and the diamond plated bed and rear bench aren’t ideal either, but we like the general idea behind the build and detail changes could make a big difference. Find it here on eBay in Avon, Indiana with no reserve.

This 1960 DKW Munga is sold as a project with an extra chassis, however there’s no word on the running condition of either. Four wheel drive and four wheel steering is interesting, and a quick search revealed that many parts are still available through specialized vendors—better brush up on your German, though. Find it here on Craigslist in Phelan, California for $1,200.

Nicely Upgraded: 1974 Jeep Cherokee

$

This 1974 Jeep Cherokee served as the seller’s daily driver for two years until recently, the ad noting that its swapped, early Wrangler-sourced 4.0 six has only about 36k miles on it. Upgrades include a mild cam, Clifford intake, header, Holley four barrel carb, HEI distributor and more. Said to run great with lots of power, we dig the ’64 Gladiator grille and headlights though rocker rust will need attention. Find it here on Craigslist in Portland, Orgeon for $6,500 OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Thomas B. for this submission!

Air-Cooled Diesel V8: Restored 1967 Tatra T138 4X4

$

This 1967 Tatra T138 is described as an ex-Czech army truck that’s been fully restored. Much like their rear-engined, passenger car counterparts, Tatra’s trucks are chock full of interesting engineering such as a central backbone tube chassis with swing axles and air-cooled, multi-cylinder diesel engines. This V8-powered four wheel drive model looks extremely well restored. Find it here on eBay in Uhrovec, Slovakia with a $45k BIN.

Air-cooled Diesel V8: Restored 1967 Tatra T138 4X4

Offered in a number of other varieties including 2X4, 4X6, 6X6 and so on, Tatra’s traditional, modular backbone chassis made for easy customization on a per-order basis. Note the positive camber of both front and rear wheels, a signature of the truck’s swing arm suspension. The fanned palm frond style grille was a key styling feature of all Type 138’s, and though no restoration details are provided, this particular example appears to be in as-originally-delivered condition.

Air-cooled Diesel V8: Restored 1967 Tatra T138 4X4

The interior is pictured only once in a vertically oriented, awkwardly angled photo but does seem to show that equal attention was given to the cab. The mismatched red center steering wheel detracts slightly, and the overhead turret portal is a nod to the truck’s military history. This Kopřivnice factory-produced promotional video from 1961 shows off the model’s impressive off-road capabilities with interesting swing axle articulation footage. Check out 3:25 for some serious water fording and 4:45 for a demonstration of the hydraulic spare wheel lift.

Shown here in naturally aspirated trim, Tatra’s Type 928 diesel V8 is still offered today in a much evolved, turbocharged form. Aside from fan-forced air-cooling, other unique features include a roller bearing crankshaft built up from individual segments, another clever use of modular construction which allowed many parts to be shared with now-discontinued 12 cylinder models. Note the belt-driven air-compressor and massive air cleaner housings.

Air-cooled Diesel V8: Restored 1967 Tatra T138 4X4

Stuff like this always makes us wish we owned a big piece of property with lots of gnarly trails. A whole weekend could easily be spent just crawling around in first and second gears with the auxiliary splitter box in low range.

Rolling Resto Candidate: 1959 Volkswagen Single Cab Transporter

$

This 1959 Volkswagen Type 2 single cab transporter was recently pulled from 40 years of storage and has been partially refurbished with new brake lines, wheel cylinders and more. The motor will require rebuilding due to a knock, as will the transaxle in order to remedy a bad reverse gear and worn synchro in second. The seller’s largely rust-free assessment seems more than a bit optimistic, but we’ve seen much worse still on the road. Find it here on eBay in Tucson, Arizona with reserve not met.

This 1984 Land Rover Defender 110 County is described as a 100% legally imported and Florida titled diesel model that remains all-original. Rust at the bottom of the doors and rear bumper will need work, but overall the truck appears to be in quite decent condition and we dig the color scheme as well. Said to start easily and run well, four doors and a big luggage compartment would make it a good family camping rig. Find it here on Craigslist in Atlanta, Georgia for $15k. Special thanks to BaT reader Christian D. for this submission!

350/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

$

0

This 1967 Chevrolet El Camino seems like a good, unpretentious driver with a nice mix of spec, condition and colors. We gather it’s a recent restoration, as the ad notes a three-digit mileage and photos show a very clean bed and underside. These second generation cars our our favorites, and it’s hard to go wrong with a 4-speed, crate 350 and AR Salt Flat Specials. Find it here on eBay in Gilbert, Arizona for $17,995 OBO.

350/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

Few specifics are provided, but paint looks pretty recent as judged by seemingly unmarked nose, rockers, rear quarters and bed. Chrome and brightwork look fresh as well. A mild ride height adjustment goes very nicely with gray center Halibrand Kidney Bean style wheels, and simple, unadorned pipes exiting from either side of the bed just aft of the rear tires fits the car’s low-key style.

350/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

Though we’d swap out the billet steering wheel for an OEM or large diameter, wood-rimmed item, the interior is pretty much spot-on otherwise. White faced gauges in a custom metal cluster look good, and it’s nice to see factory style upholstery on the standard split bench—these cars just don’t look right with buckets. A good quality sound system with subs is concealed behind the seat backs, though the radio appears to be a modern, period-style replica. Maybe there’s a CD played hidden in the glove box?

350/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

Power comes from a mild looking 350 with headers, and details like the rocker covers and power steering pump configuration hint that it may be a newer crate motor, likely a 330 horse “HO” unit. We’ve driven a few old El Caminos with similar power, and a light rear end, loud pipes and stickshift definitely made for a fun combination, even if they weren’t all that quick when it came to hard numbers.

350/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

Spray in a liner, swap the steering wheel and you’d have a really versatile package, ready for cruising or hardware store runs. No fiberglass bed caps, please.

This 1964 Datsun 320 (chassis 4L320003720) is said to be a California-delivered truck and retains its original, 60 horse 1.2 and 4-speed manual as well as model year black plates. Said to run, shift and drive excellently, the seller further claims it’s rust-free and mentions a mild restoration that was completed a few years ago. We’re not sure about the green mirrors, but overall the truck presents quite well. Find it here on eBay in Palm Desert, California with no reserve and fast bidding.

This 1965 Ford F250 has been restored and both looks and sounds like a very nice, usable truck. Very light Tropical Turquoise with Wimbledon White is thought to be the original color combo, and a V8/4-speed manual drivetrain seems like fun to us. Cosmetics are nice inside and out, and sale includes original tools. Find it here on Craigslist in San Marcos, California for $14,900. Special thanks to BaT reader Ed T. for this submission.

This 1978 Jeep Cherokee is said to run well and looks like a used but not beaten driver in photos, the seller adding that it’s in good condition for its age but has unspecified quirks. An automatic, power-steering equipped truck, what’s shown of the interior seems to be in surprisingly good shape. Find it here on Craigslist in Fillmore, California for $4k. Sand Cruiser: 1983 Mercedes-Benz 280GE

$

0

This 1983 Mercedes Benz 280GE is a Steyr-badged European market car currently en-route from Spain. Described as a rust-free and mechanically sorted truck, we like the gasoline straight-six and 4-speed manual combination, especially in this relatively rare five door configuration. Overall the truck presents as a nice, usable driver, and sale will include a clean VA title. Find it here on Craigslist near Falls Church, Virginia for $21,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Sasha for this submission!

1983 Mercedes Benz 280GL Front

Paint is freshly resprayed Weissengelb or Wheat Yellow and appears to be factory correct as supported by a firewall shot. Drive this one through L.A. and it’s black plastic grille, relatively small diameter wheels and lack of AMG badging would cause some serious head scratching.

1983 Mercedes Benz 280GL Rear

The utilitarian vibe of these early G-wagens is our favorite thing about them, and their no-nonsense design ethos is particularly evident in these farm-spec version’s interiors. The truck’s military roots are displayed clearly in its angular, imdustrial-equipment style instrument binnacle, rubber floors and simple fittings—absolutely no wood or leather in sight. Plaid seats are always cool in old German stuff.

1983 Mercedes Benz 280GL Interior

Spec includes locking front and read diffs, the seller further noting excellent, sorted mechanicals. Recent work included new injectors, cold start sensor, exhaust and more, while the ad also states that it idles smoothly, accelerates well and produces no smoke. Tires are nearly new, and the truck is said to cruise easily at 110 km/h (68 MPH) with plenty in reserve. No engine shots are provided, so instead we’re posting this short video of it driving on narrow Spanish streets as embedded within the seller’s website.

We think it’d excel as an interesting alternative to a Range Rover or Land Cruiser, and with the revvy twin cam straight six and 4-speed should be more fun to drive on the street than either.

This 1941 Autocar U-2044 4X4 cab over engine truck is believed to have originally served as a gas or oil tanker during WWII but has more recently had a hydraulic dumper bed added. Complete with its matching-numbers 5.2 liter Hercules straight-six, the seller has made no attempts to start it but notes that it turns freely and was last run and driven about eight years ago. The cab is partially made of wood and will require some repair, but overall it looks quite restorable. Find it here on eBay in Reno, Nevada with reserve not met.

This 1967 Land Rover 88 Series IIA wears a two year, 3,000 mile-old restoration and still looks really nice inside and out. Stripped back to the frame, work included rust repair as well as fitment of many re-galvanized parts and a Fairey overdrive. Sills are custom galvanized items, and NATO-style, black-painted wheels are a great choice. Other work included a partial engine rebuild, refurbished axles, upgraded SIII dual circuit, power boosted brakes and more. Find it here on Craigslist in Belchertown, Massachusetts for $18k OBO. This 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 is equipped with an unusual Dormobile camper conversion and seems to be in very nice shape throughout. Paint and bodywork are a few years old and look to be holding up well, while the interior sounds to remain mostly original including camper tent material, cots, front passenger seat mounted stove and more. Power comes from a freshly rebuilt 1776cc motor, the seller adding that brakes, steering, suspension and tires are all in equally good shape. Stretched Caddy: Custom 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit Pick-Up

This 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit/Caddy is a custom stretch built two years ago and left nearly completed. Sold with a clean title, the seller says it’s been street driven before but adds that it still needs interior finishing as well as minor body work and paint. Measuring an impressive 17′ 3” from nose to tail, it’d make a cool shop truck as-is but would be really impressive finished to a factory standard. Find it here on eBay in Taylorsville, Utah with a $7,500 BIN.

Clean 5-Speed: 1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Weekender

$

0

This 1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Weekender looks clean, well-kept and attractive in white over BBS snowflakes, the seller and claimed second owner adding that it runs excellently and benefits from new tags, a clean title and smog certificate. We didn’t even know these were offered with 5-speed manuals Stateside, and really like the idea of a Westy camper with modern-ish safety, convenience and reliability. Find it here on Craigslist in San Jose, California for $14,500.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Side

VW was on a styling roll in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and we’ve always found these to be very good-looking vans, their simple, form-follows-function shape and clean, rational detailing typifying all that used to be good about German design. The BBS’s are a perfect match, and red VW logo center caps are a nice touch.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Rear

The gray cloth interior seems to be just as clean, and though not shown in the down position, the rear triple bench should slide forward to join with the padded rear parcel shelf in order to make a good-sized bed. Rear-facing captains chairs, a fold-down table and of course the pop-top add to its versatility, though we gather Weekender spec means no stove, sink or other accessories standard fit to full-on campers. Bring a foldaway propane stove, a big cooler and a couple of wash bins instead.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Interior

Motivation comes from a 2.5 liter five cylinder, and though underpowered by conventional minivan standards, 110 HP must have seemed like a revelation to VW fans upgrading from old air-cooled, RWD Type 2 Westys. The 5-speed should make progress a bit less stressful and quite a bit more fun as well, and in lieu of unavailable engine shots we’ve included this photo of the top popped.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Top Popped

A true MPV, you could drive it to work Monday through Friday and then cruise to VW meets or out to the campsite curing the weekend. Just don’t lower it and don’t tint it, please.

Grandpa’s 1978 International Harvester Scout Traveler

$

This 1978 International Scout was purchased new by the seller’s grandfather and runs a 304/auto combo. An A/C equipped truck, it’s further claimed to be all original, but green over blue seems like a strange factory color combination to us. While the truck isn’t shown from every angle it does appear to be in quite good condition if not for a bit of surface rust on the underside of the hood and a slightly dirty cabin. Find it here on Craigslist in Tacoma, Washington for $20k. Special thanks to BaT reader Adriel R. for this submission.
